Help, we need funeral memorabilia

Have your say

Wardsend Cemetery has been a fascinating and interesting last resting place for 120 years.

However, there is a lack of photographs and personal memories. Can you help us? We are looking for personal memories or experiences there and any photographs or ephemera that readers may have that we may be allowed to copy.

Items such as photos or funeral memorabilia such as funeral cards from the 20th century or earlier would be greatly appreciated.

This would help us to build up a picture of what life and death was like during the cemetery’s history as little is known apart from the 1862 bodysnatching scandal. Any assistance readers can provide will be welcome.

We would also like to say thank you to the staff at Kelham Island museum for their assistance tduring the Down by the Riverside festival.
