WE have been overwhelmed by the response to our appeal for nominations for the Healthcare Hero award which we are backing.
This is part of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals’ annual Thank You Awards ceremony next month and we are proud to be involved.
Not least because it gives us a great opportunity to throw the spotlight of praise on a host of health care professionals who have been nominated by our readers for going above and beyond the call of duty in looking after people in the city.
They come from a wide range of disciplines, from specialist doctors and consultants to nurses, midwives and volunteers.
But all the nominations have one thing in common - they are all full of praise for the people they are putting forward for the award.
Now comes your chance to vote. We hope that you all take part and show us who is the Healthcare Hero of 2011.
Next chapter for Come-back city
IT is great news that the Moor is to get a new gateway with permission about to be granted for a new showpiece store at Moorhead.
But it is even better news that work is expected to start on the three-storey building in the New Year.
For too long developments in the city centre have been stagnant with little sign of progress. And the current economic climate has held out little hope that this situation would change in the near future.
That is why we welcome the confidence by Moor management firm MoorSheffield that a start date is just round the corner.
This is exactly the kind of shot-in-the-arm that the city centre has been needing for some time and we look forward to the first bricks being laid for the next bright chapter in the story of Come-back Sheffield.
Step towards goal
ANOTHER piece of good news for our area is that Rolls-Royce is about to be given the go-ahead for outline permission to build three factories on the Advanced Manufacturing Park between Rotherham and Sheffield.
And that will mean hundreds of hi-tech jobs being created to ease this part of the county out of the economic doldrums which have stagnated so much development in recent months.
The Advanced Manufacturing Park is a true beacon of hope for people who desire sound and reliable jobs and this is a major step to achieve this goal.
