A frightened customer was pushed to one side by the masked raiders as they climbed behind the counter, threatening the woman shop worker.

The robbers, aged between 16 and 18, then fled the scene, taking cash from the till and cigarettes.

One of the men was wearing a grey or green jacket with dark tracksuit bottoms.

The other wore a dark green hooded jacket with dark Adidas tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

They carried a cream coloured baseball bat, and what is believed to be an antique style, single-barrelled shotgun.

Police made three arrests after the raid, which happened at around 7pm on Monday.

They have released the suspects on bail pending further enquiries.

Matthew Wheeler, who owns Main Street News, said the shop worker was unhurt, but she had been left “shaken up” by the ordeal.

“I have viewed the incident on CCTV and it is frightening,” he said.

“When guns are involved it does not take much for something to go wrong. Anything could have happened.

“There was one member of staff working at the time and one customer in the shop and fortunately they were not hurt.

“But the woman working in the shop was very upset afterwards and is taking some time off. She was really shaken up.”

Mr Wheeler said he wanted the culprits behind the robbery to be prosecuted.

“I want them caught before they do this again and somebody gets seriously hurt or even worse,” he added.

Police want to speak to the men seen in these CCTV pictures about the incident.
