FLASH floods hit roads in Sheffield following heavy downpours of rain today.

Motorists on Upwell Street in Grimesthorpe were forced to drive through deep water which pooled under the bridge at the junction with Brightside Lane.

Driving conditions are also hazardous on London Road South between the Wolseley Road and Oak Street junctions because of flooding.

Conditions are also poor between the A61 Meadowhead junction and the Bowshaw roundabout, because of surface water.

Chris Burton, a forecaster with Meteogroup, said 11mm rain fell in an hour in Sheffield this morning.

He said the weather should be drier this afternoon but there is a chance of more heavy showers.
