Heaven 17 and Jon Culshaw on DJ Dave Kilner charity show

HEAVEN 17 and comedy impersonator Jon Culshaw have been added to the star- studded concert for a new children's charity in memory of former DJ Dave Kilner.

They will join Def Leppard rockers Joe Elliott and Rick Savage, Is This The Way To Amarillo star Tony Christie, St Elmo's Fire legend John Parr and TV singer-songwriter comedian Steve Womack.

The concert, called Dave Kilner - A Night To Remember, is at Sheffield City Hall, Friday, April 30, 2010, 8pm.

Tickets are 25 and 30.

It has been organised by Dave's widow Shirley and his two daughters Nicola and Rebecca, to launch a charity to help local, disadvantaged children, called Help A Child Have A Chance.

Dave, a former presenter with Hallam FM, Magic AM and Peak FM, was a fundraising manager, organising events and other money making opportunities, for Help A Hallam Child, which became known as Cash For Kids.

The father-of-two, who lived in Whirlow, was a prominent voice at Sheffield United. He had been ill for some time and died last year, aged 48, in Sheffield's Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

He had been planning a South Yorkshire pop and rock stars concert to mark his 30 years in broadcasting.

Now the concert is in his memory and to help his charity work to live on.

Heaven 17 signed up and met Dave's family after the Penthouse And Pavement concert at Magna.

Singer Glenn told The Star: "Dave was a good friend and we were saddened to hear about his death. We are proud to be taking part in this amazing concert, to raise money for local children in his name."

Keyboard player and songwriter producer Martyn added: "I used to be on the phone with Dave for hours. He was a long-time supporter of ours and we want to give something back."

Jon is renowned for work with Radio 1's Chris Moyles, Dead Ringers and Spitting Image, where he came to fame with more than 40 voice impressions of personalities.

He has launched a comedy sketch show with Debra Stephenson, The Impression Show, which is due to be released on DVD.

He said: "Dave was a warm, bright, kind, funny man and a good friend. And a broadcasting legend, let's not forget that. It is an honour to be part of a show that pays such a fitting tribute to him."

Shirley said: "It is fantastic that Heaven 17 and Jon have agreed to join the other stars and perform at the concert. Dave was really close with all of them. Jon often used to pop round to our house to watch football on TV with Dave.

"Dave did so much for the city. He helped so many bands, had so many friends and was so passionate about helping local disadvantaged children. So Rebecca, Nicola and I want this legacy to continue with this new charity. We're planning a golf day and a dinner."

Tickets 25 and 30 from the Sheffield City hall box office on 0114 2789 789 or book on line at www.sheffieldcityhall.co.uk
