Heat turns up at literary festival with 'magical' show
LAST year it was a flaming phoenix that had people from miles around talking.
This time the Beacons Project went one better - using even more fire and pyrotechnic trickery to enhance story-telling at Parkwood Springs, high above Sheffield city centre.
The Thread Of Fire was literally one of the hottest fixtures of this year's Off The Shelf literary festival, using pyrotechnic sculptures created by Handspring Design to provide a memorable finale to the event.
Award-nominated Sheffield storyteller Shonaleigh told the mysterious tale of the Fire Bird, backed up by fire juggling, flares, fire drums and a big finish to light up the night sky.
"We did really well for weather as it was spitting when we started off, but then it was clear skies for the evening," said Lilly Elbra for the Beacons Project.
"There were more costumes and characters this year, sets built into the landscape and walks to different locations of the story before the finale which was this moving fire sculpture.
"It was quite magical."
