A heartbroken Doncaster family has pleaded for the return of two beloved dogs stolen in a raid on their home. Bedlington Terriers Missy and Millie were snatched by thieves who broke into their owners’ home in Thorne in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Now the devastated family are calling for the safe return of the two dogs who are described as “friendly and lovable.”
Owner Bernie Palmer said: “We are absolutely gutted. We just want them back safe and sound. We’ve no idea what’s happening to them and it has hit us all hard.”
The dogs, who are both four years old, have been with the family at their home in Cotswold Road since they were pups.
The raiders are thought to have broken into the property between midnight on around 7am on Wednesday - and also took a laptop, mobile phone, Mr Palmer’s wallet and also the family car.
He said: “I went into the lounge and saw my laptop had gone. Then I realised the phone had gone too, along with my wallet.
“Then I said to my wife Jayne ‘where’s the dogs?’ and realised they had gone too. When I went outside to investigate I had found the car had gone as well.”
The pedigree dogs, which are valued at about £400-£600 each, are described as “extremely friendly.”
“They don’t even bark when someone comes to the door,” he added. “They would have rushed straight up to whoever came in and just started fussing around them because they wouldn’t hurt a fly and there’s no malicious streak in them. Its a bit of a double aged sword really, but that’s why we like them because they are good family pets.”
The couple’s daughters Jess and Charlotte were also at home at the time of the raid but were not woken up during the incident.
Added Mr Palmer: “We aren’t bothered about all the other stuff, that’s immaterial and can be replaced. But the dogs can’t.
“We don’t know if it was a random attack or they were targeted. The police are looking into it and someone has told us that Bedlingtons are used for hunting.”
“I am prepared to pay to get them back - that’s how much they mean to me.”
Missy is described as having an overlapping jaw which leaves her tongue sticking out. She is a grey colour. Minnie, meanwhile, is the taller of the pair and is a liver colour. Anyone with information can contact 07931 751357 or 07799401954.
