A lifesaving service which transfers sick children from across the region to intensive care has celebrated its fifth birthday.
Embrace Yorkshire and Humber Infant and Children’s Transport Service transfers young patients by road, and also makes air transfers with both helicopters and planes.
Since its birth, the around-the-clock transport service has safely transferred 9,972 critically ill babies and children.
The specialised crew, including doctors and nurses, celebrated Embrace’s birthday with tea and cake at their headquarters in Dodworth, Barnsley.
Dr Steve Hancock, critical care consultant from Embrace, said: “Five years ago we had just one ambulance, which helped Sheffield patients. Now we serve 23 hospitals across Yorkshire and Humber.”
