users of mental health services in Barnsley will come together to celebrate Yorkshire Day today with a cricket match.
The South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has organised the event at Barnsley Cricket Club in association with the Yorkshire Cricket Board and the Time to Change campaign, which calls for an end to discrimination of those with a mental illness.
The event, which will welcomed 10-a-side teams from across the area, is designed to celebrate cricket as a rehabilitation tool for people suffering from mental health problems.
Hannah Geal, recovery and wellbeing sports lead for the trust in Barnsley, said, “This is an ideal opportunity to raise awareness of mental health issues, reduce stigma and promote wellbeing through exercise.
“We know that physical activity and social inclusion all make a big difference to wellbeing so the cricket fun day is great way to support these areas.”
The event runs from 9.30am 5pm at the Shaw Lane cricket club. Members of the public are welcome along to show their support.
