Winter survival programme

Have your say

HEALTH bosses in Barnsley are handing out free winter survival kits to 2,000 vulnerable families to help them stay warm in their homes.

The pilot scheme is being rolled out in an effort to reduce the number of hospital admissions and deaths this winter.

The kits include essential warmers - a blanket, hat, gloves, thermal socks, a hot water bottle, and packet soup - plus shoe grips for walking on ice, an alarm that beeps when room temperature drops below a certain level, and a room thermometer. The programme is being funded with £150,000 of Government money.
