He’s half the dad he would have been – just in time for Father’s Day!
Super slimmer Mark Ellison has shed six stone in less than a year after discovering he was to become a dad.
The team leader for Aviva has dropped from 22 stone to 16 and is now looking forward to marking the first of many Father’s Days with three-month-old son Thomas.
Mark, of Francis Grove, High Green, Sheffield, said: “When I found out that I was going to be a dad last June it was important for me to lose weight.
“I was going to be a dad but I weighed 22 stone which is morbidly obese.
“I needed to do something for my own health and make sure I was going to be around for a few years.
“It spurred me on to do it.”
Mark, aged 35, and 33-year-old wife Katherine discovered their happy news last June just before they went away to mark their one-year wedding anniversary.
The day they came back, Mark joined High Green Weight Watchers meetings every Wednesday night and took up running in a bid to slim down.
And by the time Thomas made his arrival in March, the new dad already had a whole new wardrobe.
Mark, who wants to lose another two stone to reach his ideal weight, said the weight-loss plan had worked for him ‘straight away’.
He said: “I’m chuffed about celebrating Father’s Day.
“It’s one of those feelings I never thought I would have,
“I wouldn’t have enjoyed as much without this new lease of life.
“Losing the weight has done so much for my confidence and has given me a lot of energy – which I’ll probably need when Thomas gets older.
“I think I’ll need it even more when I’m running around the park with him in the future.”
