A WARNING has been issued about the dangers of people having body art at ‘tattoo parties’ held in people’s homes.
Barnsley Council said tattooist shops must be registered with the council and the standards of hygiene and safety are checked and monitored by health and safety officers.
Officials say tattooists at house parties may not be registered – and last week they found an illegal tattooist advertising tattoo parties on Facebook. He was advised to stop or face prosecution.
Coun Roy Miller, Barnsley Council cabinet spokesman, said: “Barnsley is the cheapest place in the region to register to become a tattooist or skin piercer so there is no reason for tattoo artists to be unregistered unless they know they cannot comply with hygiene and safety requirements.”
