A WARD for older people with mental health problems at a South Yorkshire hospital has reopened after extensive refurbishment.
The former ward six at Kendray Hospital in Barnsley, now known as Willow Ward, was officially opened in a ceremony hosted by the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
The new unit cares for people with functional mental health problems.
New facilities include 10 large en-suite bedrooms and improved treatment, examination and interview rooms.
The unit also boasts better assisted bathing and showering facilities and more spacious lounge and dining areas.
The outside patio area has also been improved.
Matron Kim Hawcroft said the revamp would boost patient care.
She said: “The refurbishment has given us a more modern and spacious ward, providing a significantly improved environment for patients which should help to aid recovery.”
