A dedicated Sheffield charity shop volunteer enjoyed a date with royalty at a Buckingham Palace garden party.
John Stevens was invited to the party in recognition of his loyal service for the British Heart Foundation.
He mingled with guests on the lawns and attended a private reception with Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, who is a patron for the charity.
John volunteers up to six days a week at the foundation’s store in Crystal Peaks Shopping Centre, Waterthorpe, where he builds and fixes furniture, as well as assembling items at customers’ homes.
John said: “I’m delighted my work has been recognised, but I couldn’t do it without the amazing team at the shop.
“I get to meet fantastic people in my role and would encourage anyone to volunteer as it is such a rewarding experience and so much fun.”
Chris Ward, BHF area manager, said John was a ‘fantastic member of the team’.
