Video: Hallamshire Harrier Steve Worthington wins 1,000-runner Dronfield 10k

Steve Worthington defied the wind and cold to take first place in the popular Dronfield 10K race last Sunday.

The Hallamshire Harriers runner got round the course in 34:54 minutes, 40 seconds ahead of former Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School pupil Phil Skelton, one of a large team of Steel City Striders club who took part.

Worthington won the Sheffield Hallam Endcliffe Park run last year.

Around 1,000 runners and the associated Fun Run competitors braved a blustery conditions in the 24th edition of the event, watched by England footballer and son of Dronfield Gary Cahill.

Aidan Linskill, of Totley AC, was third home.

First woman home was Jennifer Rich, of Steel City Striders RC, in 18th place with a time of 40:01.

She was followed 40 seconds later by Samantha Iliffe of North Derbyshire RC.

Spare a thought for the game Christine Swain who ended the 10K last in 841st place in 1:56:06.

Both events raise funds for 7th Dronfield Scouts and a host of charities.
