A POPULAR children’s TV presenter is supporting a national campaign raising awareness of dementia with an event in Sheffield.
Richard McCourt, better known as one half of the Dick and Dom partnership, will be at an event organised by the local branch of the Alzheimer’s Society to launch Dementia Awareness Week.
It will be held on The Moor in the city centre at 11am on Monday, July 4, and will include a host of activities such as a balloon launch, singing, tea and cakes.
There will also be a memory tree which staff and volunteers from the charity will invite people to add to with leaves with their memories on and an information and awareness stall offering the chance to speak to advisers from Alzheimer’s Society Sheffield.
The theme of this year’s event is Remember the Person and focuses on people leading fulfilling lives whilst living with their dementia.
Maria Flude, from the charity, said: “We need to tackle the myths surrounding dementia if we are to ensure people with dementia are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
“This event is a great opportunity to learn about how you can offer your support to a family living with dementia and really help improve someone’s quality of life.”
