A FORMER top football referee kicked off fundraising for a sponsored walk in aid of a Sheffield cancer charity.
Uriah Rennie, who oversaw Premiership and international games, officially launched Weston Park Hospital’s Walk as One event, a five kilometre sponsored walk in and around Sheffield’s Don Valley Stadium.
The walk, at 10am on Sunday, October 16, is open to cancer survivors and people who have lost loved ones to the disease, as well as supporters of the charity and the general public.
Many walkers wear fancy dress and last year more than 500 took part, raising £30,000 for Weston Park.
Uriah, a patron of the charity, said: “The Walk as One is a fantastic way for people of all ages and abilities to get together and do their bit to support a cause close to their hearts.
“I also want to encourage people to make the most of the fancy dress element by coming along in their most colourful outfits, bringing an element of fun to what is set to be an amazing day.”
