Events are to be held in Doncaster this week to warn the public about the dangers of alcohol.

National alcohol awareness week runs until Sunday November, and this year’s theme nationally is ‘A conversation about alcohol’

Events will be taking place during office hours at the Doncaster Job Centre, tomorrow, and at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Thursday, where people can speak to a health professional, have an alcohol screen and get a better understanding of local alcohol services.

The team have already completed one successful day of conversations at the Civic Office ‘one stop shop’ yesterday, say health bosses.

Coun Pat Knight, Doncaster Council cabinet member for health said: “We are still seeing too many people being treated for alcohol related illnesses, and the message is that prevention is better that the cure. We want people to come forward to talk to us about concerns they have, and whether they are drinking a safe amount. People can talk to us in confidence and get valuable information and advice.”
