A Sheffield taxi company is sponsoring for the second year running an appeal which allows disadvantaged children to visit a city farm.

Mercury Taxis is supporting Whirlow Hall Farm Trust through its 480 Club, which allows youngsters to experience country life.

Peter Holmes, Mercury’s business development manager, said pupils from Wybourn Community Primary School visited the farm to take part in a host of activities.

“A group of 12 children from Wybourn Community Primary stayed on the farm for two nights enjoying a farm tour, doing fun farm jobs and pony riding thanks to the funds we raise,” he said.

“As a dad of a pre-school child, I am always moved to hear that these are experiences they would never otherwise get.

“Some have never even seen a farm animal.”

Whirlow’s fundraiser and event organiser Suzanne Nitikman added: “We really value Mercury Taxis’ continued support and further sponsorship of the Hallowe’en Spooktacular and the Christmas Fayre later this year.”
