New sessions for all sorts of swimmers are being introduced at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.
The changes which follow customer feedback and consultation are aimed at giving swimming opportunities for customers of all ages and abilities.
Sessions in the Surf City Leisure Pool will include disability and autism friendly swims, swimming for slimming, Age UK swim and lane swimming for beginners.
The disability and autism-friendly sessions allow swimmers to be supported with floatation mats, which are used to give support and independence in the water for people of all ages and abilities.
The slimming classes have been designed especially for those wanting to lose weight through swimming, with participants burning more than 200 calories in a 30 minute swim.
A new Sport England Active People’s Survey shows Sheffield is already above the national average for adult swimming participation.
General manager Richard Apps said: “Our customers’ opinions are incredibly important to us so we have based the new timetable around what people told us they would like to see.”
