Fundraisers are getting their chance to shine once again - by signing up for the annual Starlight Walk in aid of St Luke’s Hospice.
For the fourth year running, walkers will be getting together for a 5k trek through the Porter Valley from Endcliffe Park to Forge Dam, collecting donations for the hospice in Whirlow.
The walk will take place on Saturday, May 17, setting off at 8.45pm, but from 6.30pm there will be live music, food and a Thornbridge Brewery beer tent to keep crowds entertained.
A mass warm-up at 8.15pm will ensure every participant is limbered up and well prepared.
Una Moran, St Luke’s director of fundraising, said: “You can walk in memory of loved ones, walk for someone who is unwell, whether or not they’re being cared for by St Luke’s, or just walk for fun and fitness.
“Last year more than 1,000 people took part in the Starlight Walk, raising thousands of pounds to help us care for local people with life-limiting illnesses.
“Every step you take on the night raises even more money towards the cost of the vital round-the-clock care we provide for the people of Sheffield and their families.”
Registration costs £15 for adults and £10 for children aged five to 15.
For groups of six or more, the cost of registering is £10.
However, the initial fee covers only the cost of staging the event, so organisers are urging walkers to start seeking sponsorship as soon as possible.
“Every year we need to raise at least £4.5 million to keep on doing what we do so well, as less than a third of our funding comes from the NHS,” Una added.
