A DAD who lost four stones in weight after transforming his lifestyle is stepping out for the ‘easy bit’ - a marathon.
Dad Philip Williams, aged 34, weighed 18st 6lbs back in October 2011 when he decided it was time for a change.
He signed up to the gym, kicked his smoking and drinking habits and, more in hope than expectation, applied for a place in the London Marathon.
To his surprise he was told his application had been successful, so he set about taking his training regime “more seriously”.
Now, weighing almost four stone lighter at a streamline 14st 7lbs, Philip is ready to race 26.2 miles around the capital on April 21.
“I had to change my lifestyle and my habits completely,” said Philip, of Dronfield, who is the branch manager of Haybrook Estate Agents in Woodseats.
“I was drinking a bottle of wine a night and smoking 40 cigarettes a day, but I haven’t touched a drop for six months and I’ve stopped smoking.”
He said that he will maintain his new-found regime after the race - and says he is now fit enough to play with his children Georgia, 15, Thomas, 10 and Ella, seven.
“It has been horrendous but the support I’ve had from everyone has been great,” he said.
“Compared to what I’ve given up, running the race will be the easy bit.”
