PLAYERS from a Sheffield ice hockey team led the way in a Europe-wide fundraiser to help children’s charities.

Two groups from the Sheffield Steeldogs took part in the Hilton Hotel’s Around the World in Seven Hours challenge, which saw people at the chain’s gyms take to exercise bikes for seven hours.

The Steeldogs took the top two places out of 10 teams taking part in Sheffield - and landed an impressive eighth place in the whole of Europe.

The stunt has raised thousands for 132 children’s charities across the continent, including more than £500 raised through donations from family, friends and supporters of the Steeldog.

Coach Andre Payette said: “We had a great time - there was a DJ playing music and lots of our supporters turned out to cheer us on.

“It was quite tough going because we were really giving it our all to travel as far as we could. But it was worth it to know we were raising money.”
