World number one squash champion Nick Matthew has raised more than £1,000 for St Luke’s Hospice.

The Sheffield sports star was the headliner at an exhibition match in Wetherby and Nick - the two times world champion, three times British Open champion and five times British national champion - beat the club’s seven times champion Andrew Widdowson.

The event raised a final total of £1,100, which will go towards the £4.5m needed annually to maintain the hospice’s services.

“Having Nick as one of our patrons is very important to us,” said St Luke’s Ged Carter.
