A brave cancer patient is taking to the skies today to raise funds for a treatment which he hopes could safe his life.

Daniel Moxon, aged 23, from Kendray in Barnsley, will jump out of an aeroplane at 10,000 feet when he takes part in a skydive to raise money to pay for a trip to America for treatment.

Daniel was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2009 and received a bone marrow transplant a year later.

He was in remission for just over two years but, sadly, he relapsed earlier this year - and doctors said there was nothing more they could do to help him fight the disease.

However, his family have since found out that there are clinical trials in America which could help Daniel, but which are not available in the UK.

Now Daniel and his family are trying urgently to raise money to pay for the treatment, which could cost hundreds of thousands of pounds. They have launched The Daniel Moxon Chance for Life Appeal.

Daniel said: “Initially I wanted to do the sky dive to raise money for the charities who had helped me through my original diagnosis and treatment, but it was cancelled several times because of bad weather.

“It was rescheduled, but shortly afterwards I found out that I’d relapsed.

“There has to be something out there that can save me, but we have no idea how much it could cost, which is why we’re doing everything we can to raise funds.

“It’s devastating to think that my life could depend on how much money we have – money that my family just doesn’t have.”

Doctors have told Daniel, who has acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, that he is fit enough to take part in the skydive which takes place today at Hibaldstow Airfield, in Lincolnshire.

If there is any money left over after Daniel’s treatment, he plans to split it between blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan, who provided his bone marrow donor, the Teenage Cancer Trust, which supports teens fighting cancer, and the Willow Foundation which organises days out for terminally ill people aged between 16 and 40.
