Doncaster Opera star Lesley Garrett is backing a campaign to get more people to become regular supporters of South Yorkshire dementia charity Lost Chord.
Lost Chord helps improve the quality of life of people with dementia by providing musical experiences in care homes and day centres across the region.
But Lost Chord needs to raise £270,000 annually to fund its work.
Organisers, backed by patron Lesley Garrett, are asking the public to make a monthly pledge of £3 a month.
“I know from experience how music can reach the confused minds of dementia sufferers when nothing else can,” said Lesley.
“To see a smile on the face of someone who hasn’t smiled for many months is a very special moment and for a musician who has touched the heart of a dementia sufferer the joy is incomparable.”
Fundraising manager Tina Harrison said: “Regular giving is a very easy and tax efficient way of helping a charity.
“It’s simple to set up and the payments are collected automatically so that cuts down on administrative costs.”
