A Sheffield teen’s battle with three brain tumours has inspired a new charity run to help other patients.

Jo Orpwood, aged 14, will take part in The Ding Don Chilli Dash – the final public race at Sheffield’s Don Valley Stadium before it closes – on Saturday, June 29.

The Silverdale School pupil, of Bents Green, has undergone 13 operations and gamma knife surgery to treat his benign tumours.

Now the teenager is giving something back to city charity Neurocare, which funds life-saving neurosciences equipment at The Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

He said: “The chance to raise money for Neurocare means it’s guaranteed to be an amazing day.”

The run is sponsored by Ding Chilli Sauce – cooked up by 15-year-old Silverdale pupil Chris Parker to help the charity.

Race options include a mile course, a 5km course or four laps of the stadium.
