A Sheffield accountant is running the extra mile for charity - or should that be the extra 72 miles, given how far she’s already travelled...
Rebecca Sutton, aged 23 and an associate in assurance at city business advisor Grant Thornton, is taking part in a fundraising event in aid of Weston Park Hospital’s cancer support centre every month during 2014.
She is planning to complete a series of runs, walks and triathlons, and so far has tackled the Lancashire Half Marathon, Sleaford Half Marathon, Coniston 14, a 5km swim, the ‘unofficial’ Sheffield Half Marathon and North Berwick Triathlon.
“I’m really enjoying taking part in the challenges and I’m lucky that my family and friends are giving me so much support by joining me in many of the events,” said Rebecca, whose grandparents have been looked after at the centre.
“I really wanted to do everything I could to raise funds for this wonderful charity and also to increase awareness of the valuable work it does.
“So far, I’ve raised £800 and I’m hoping that I can beat my £1,500 target and raise £2,000 by the end of the year.”
Rebecca is still facing several events including the Rother Valley Sprint Distance Triathlon, Round Sheffield Run, Peak District TrekFest walk and two 10km mud runs in the space of 24 hours.
