A NEW unit is to open tomorrow at a secure hospital in South Yorkshire to help patients on their road to recovery.
The new ‘step-down’ facility at NHS Wathwood Hospital, Wath-upon-Dearne, Rotherham, will provide mental health patients with more independence as they prepare for discharge.
The new building will offer accommodation over two storeys, incorporating communal areas, en suite bedrooms and shared kitchen areas.
Steve Ball, general manager at the medium-secure hospital, said: “Our aim is to equip patients with the ability to integrate into the community on discharge.
“This will provide them with the opportunity to review, refine and test out relapse prevention interventions they acquired along the hospital pathway and ensure they maintain such skills in the community.”
