An ‘inspirational’ couple who lost their toddler daughter to a heart defect will together start a festive run this weekend in her honour.
Lisa and Lee Burns, from Herringthorpe, Rotherham, will launch Chase the Pud, in aid of the British Heart Foundation, on Sunday.
Organisers are inviting people to jog two laps around Parkgate Shopping Centre in Rotherham dressed as Santa, alongside the Mayor of Rotherham.
The couple, who have been together for 13 years, were left devastated when their little girl Molly Grace passed away shortly before her third birthday in 2006, because of congenital heart problems.
Eager to help other children with heart conditions, and their families, the couple have since raised money for Leeds Hospital’s heart unit.
Earlier this month, they hosted a family fancy dress party to celebrate what would have been Molly’s tenth birthday, raising £1,400 in donations for the BHF.
“Molly was our angel and after losing her the easiest thing would have been to just give up, but we found the strength to keep fighting,” said Lisa.
“Although I am a little nervous about co-starting the race, helping others allows us to celebrate Molly’s life.”
Chase the Pud starts at midday. Entry is £10 for adults, and free for children under 14 if in fancy dress and accompanied by a paying adult. Call 01909 518 062 for more information.
n The Sheffield Santa run is on December 8.
