Barnsley Hospital has received a cheque for £3,125 from Stainborough Rotary Club.
Trevor Smith presented the cheque for cash raised during his year as the Rotary Club president.
The money will go into the hospital’s Tiny Hearts Appeal fund, which has been set up to try to raise £1 million for a new special care baby unit, which will be situated alongside the Barnsley Birthing Centre.
Mr Smith said: “I wanted to do something for our local community here in Barnsley and support a local charity with a special cause.
“The Tiny Hearts Appeal is very special and when completed the new unit will benefit local people and enhance local care at Barnsley’s NHS Trust Hospital. I also wanted to help raise awareness of the appeal and help raise some of funds needed to enable the building refurbishment to start ASAP.
“I have to say that we got up to all sorts of fun to collect donations. I personally dressed up as Santa Claus along with other Father and Mother Christmases at Penistone Tesco, which was a joy.
“Barnsley people are very generous.”
