Redundancies cost NHS £9m

REORGANISING the NHS in South Yorkshire cost more than £9 million in redundancy payouts last year, a Labour MP revealed.

The cost of staff leaving Primary Care Trusts, which will be abolished in just over a year, was £9.075m in South Yorkshire in 2010/11: £3.3m in Barnsley, £3m Doncaster, £2.26m Rotherham and £490,000 in Sheffield. Don Valley MP Caroline Flint obtained figures showing 274 PCT staff had redundancy averaging £22,000 in Sheffield and £43,000 in Rotherham.
