Brave Abigail Fleming is busy preparing for her 16th birthday - even though she is only 14 years old.

Doctors have told the South Yorkshire schoolgirl she will not live to celebrate her sweet 16th in 2014 because of cancer spreading throughout her body.

But Abigail, from Maltby, is determined to have her party and will hold a glitzy event, surrounded by family and friends, next Saturday.

She has asked pals and guests to donate £2 each to fund her ‘bucket list’ of things to do before she dies. The phrase originates from the term ‘kicked the bucket’.

Abigail’s list includes meeting singer Ed Sheeran and seeing him perform, going in a hot air balloon, staying at the Alton Towers Hotel, visiting Scotland and having giant custard pie and jelly fights.

The courageous teenager said: “Although I know the cancer will take my life I’m determined to fight on and enjoy the time I have left with my family and my friends. I’m looking forward to my party.

“There are lots of things planned for the night and then hopefully I’ll be able to start doing some of the things on my list.”

Her party at the Maltby Miners’ Welfare Institute will have a raffle, tombola, disco and karaoke. Money raised will be split between Abigail, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and Weston Park Cancer Hospital.

Abigail, who lives with dad Richard, aged 42, mum Maria, 43 and brother Aidan, 13, on Quarryfield Lane, was diagnosed with bone cancer in her left leg in September 2008.

She had chemotherapy but four months later had to have her left knee and part of her leg removed.

Then, in December 2010, a routine scan found tumours in her left lung. More chemotherapy followed and part of Abigail’s left lung was removed.

Maria said: “Abigail was fit and healthy until she was diagnosed in 2008.

“The diagnosis came out of the blue and since then Abigail has spent a lot of time in hospital and undergone several courses of chemotherapy. She has been absolutely amazing, she has been so brave and has just been determined to enjoy what time she has left with us.”

Richard said: “She has a list of things she wants to do and hopefully we will be able to do them all.”

Tickets for Abigail’s party, at 7pm, are £2 from the venue.

it is when I read something as sad as this article that I ask myself "Is there really a God?" I know if I had only a miniscule of the power that is said to be in the Omnipotent I would let a child suffer like this Was it not Jesus who reportedly said "suffer little children to come unto me" Not happened to little Abigail has it ?
