A roadshow offering support to people who want to stop smoking is visiting Sheffield city centre tomorrow.

A team of advisers from the Yorkshire Smokefree Sheffield service will be at the top of Fargate from 10.30am to 4.30pm, helping smokers to make a pledge to quit as part of Public Health England’s Stoptober campaign, which will be taking place next month.

The theme of this year’s campaign is ‘stop smoking, start smiling’ – so participants will also have the chance to be filmed telling jokes.

Coun Mazher Iqbal, Sheffield Council’s cabinet member for communities and public health, said: “Smoking is sadly still the single greatest cause of preventable death and ill health in Sheffield and I would encourage people to get involved, have a chat with one of the advisers, and make the most of the resources that are available to them.

“We want to make sure people across our city are happy and healthy.

“The campaign provides us with the perfect opportunity to help each other out and support people to give up. If you don’t smoke you could encourage someone you know who does.”
