ENVIRONMENTAL health officers in a South Yorkshire town have recorded 451 incidents of food poisoning - but fear there could be up to 10 times more cases.

Barnsley Council officers are urging the public to be vigilant against food poisoning, which they fear is a much more severe problem than recorded because most people affected do not go to the doctor.

The council believes most cases of food poisoning are domestic and warns people to beware of bugs on raw meat or in the soil, which can be carried on vegetables.
