Four specialist nurses from Barnsley found a different way to celebrate a hospital chaplain’s 25 years as a priest.
Jane Parker, Shara Mortimer, Sandra Cheetham and Katie Avill-Griffiths thanked Father Peter Needham for his work at Barnsley Hospital with a knitted Nativity scene.
It took 60 hours to create and included a realistic looking stable made using sand and paint.
Jane said: “Father Peter has only been at the hospital for a year and a half, but has made a real difference to staff and patients alike.
“Whenever he comes on the ward he is friendly, warm and happy to listen and talk.”
Jane and the team trawled the internet to find the perfect knitting pattern.
Father Peter said: “I am overwhelmed by this gesture and I lovingly accept it with great thanks.
“Hospital chaplains are there to provide support and healing in a different way – it is lovely to be recognised.”
The plan is for the nativity scene to be a permanent feature in the hospital’s chapel.
