A CHILDREN’S nurse in Sheffield has been appointed to a leading position at the Royal College of Nursing.

Nikki Shepherd, who works for Sheffield Children’s Hospital, has been appointed the college’s lead coordinator for professionals specialising in the care of adopted children.

The position at the UK’s major nurses’ union is in addition to Nikki’s role in Sheffield.

Nikki has worked for six years at Sheffield’s looked- after and adoptive children’s healthcare team, which oversees the health care of youngsters seeking adoption.

She said: “I’m thrilled to have been offered the co-ordinator position. It means Sheffield will be on the map and up-to-date with the latest information and changes to do with looked-after children and have the opportunity to influence national policy.”
