NEWS IN BRIEF: Woman escapes burning flat

AN ATTIC converted into a self-contained flat on Staniforth Road, Darnall, Sheffield, was destroyed by a blaze which broke out under the floorboards. The female occupant got out before firefighters arrived on Wednesday night.

In Jubilee Gardens, Royston, Barnsley, a kitchen was badly damaged after discarded smoking materials started a blaze on Wednesday night. Firefighters found the occupier had managed to get out.

Arson attacks

AN ARSON attack was to blame for a shed in flames on an allotment on Westwood Road, Ranmoor, Sheffield, on Sunday night. Conifers on Lime Street, Beighton, Sheffield, were set alight on Monday night. A van that went up in flames on Scowerdons Close, Hackenthorpe, Sheffield, at 7.40pm on Tuesday and a Vauxhall Corsa ablaze on Park Spring Road, Grimethorpe, Barnsley, both had engine faults.

Charity box theft

A CHARITY box was stolen from Newfield Fish Bar, Gleadless Road Gleadless, after the chip shop was broken into overnight on Thursday into Friday. A shed was broken into on Norton Park Road, Norton, Sheffield, overnight on Sunday into Monday.

Drivers trapped

FIREFIGHTERS were called to free a lorry driver from his cab and a woman from a car after a collision on Fitzwilliam Road, Rotherham at 10.30am on Wednesday.
