A doctor has been given a new role to help keep Sheffield children safe from harm.

Dr Anna Ramsbottom will provide expert advice and help influence decisions on safeguarding youngsters in the city.

She will also take a role in the sexual assault referral centre at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, which is a specialist unit for children up to 16 years old who have been the victim of sexual abuse.

Dr Ramsbottom - formerly a consultant paediatrician in Derbyshire - said: “Making sure our children are safe is an incredibly important role.

“As we see from serious case reviews in the media, NHS staff across the board have a responsibility to draw attention to vulnerable young people who they might come across in their day to day working lives.

“It’s great to know I’ll be playing a part in supporting them to do that.”

Dr Ramsbottom will start her position as the designated doctor safeguarding children this month.
