A NEW £4.8 million activity centre has been opened as part of a major revamp of a mental health unit attended by South Yorkshire residents.
The centre marks the first phase of a multi-million pound NHS redevelopment of Newton Lodge – a 90-bed medium secure mental health unit in Wakefield.
It features a full-sized sports hall, workshop, art studio, therapy kitchen, music room.
Newton Lodge was built in 1984 for people who require NHS mental health care in a secure environment.
Sue Threadgold, clinical lead and project manager said, “We are delighted with the new activity centre. It is a fantastic space that will really improve the quality of life for people who receive care here, many of whom are with us for a number of years.”
