New book of kids’ illness

Have your say

HEALTH workers at Sheffield Children’s Hospital have worked together to create a local edition of an advice and information book for parents to help them manage common illnesses among young people.

Staff from primary care trust NHS Sheffield, GPs and clinicians have all had input on the Personal Child Health Record project, more commonly known as the ‘red book’.

Parents have been provided with such a document for many years, offering information on how to deal with common conditions like stomach ache, sore throat and high temperature.

It is hoped that by better supporting parents to know how to respond in the event of their child becoming unwell, unnecessary attendances at the Children’s Hospital A&E department will be reduced – freeing it up to deal with emergencies.
