Hospital bosses in Sheffield are celebrating a four-figure donation thanks to fundraising by a city MP.

Paul Blomfield, Labour MP for Sheffield Central, presented a cheque for £2,500 to David Vernon-Edwards, director of the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity.

Mr Blomfield has been fundraising throughout the year for the charity, his chosen cause for 2013.

He enjoyed a tour of the site, as well as being updated on on the charity’s Make It Better appeal to raise £20 million towards improving the hospital.

Mr Blomfield said: “The charity does a fantastic job raising money to improve care for patients and its appeal will enable the hospital’s facilities to match its exceptional service. The fundraising also helps staff provide world-class surgical and medical care through purchasing new equipment, and making the hospital a friendly and welcoming place. Every time I’ve visited the hospital, I’m bowled over by the incredible care and support staff give to the young patients.”
