Mentor scheme helps coaches

Have your say

SPORTS coaches in Sheffield have been given the chance to develop their skills through a new disability training scheme.

The scheme, set up following last year’s Paralympic Games, sees expert mentors assigned to coaches at clubs and schools to offer support, feedback and learning opportunities in disability sports.

Kevin Hayes, super league coach at Sheffield Steelers Wheelchair Basketball club, and Richard Heggarty, a PE teacher at Mossbrook Special School in Norton, have both been taking part.

The programme, called ‘Disability Coaching: Inspire this Generation’, is run by South Yorkshire Sport. Call 0114 223 5680 or visit for details.
