A new £4.5 million mental health ward has opened at the Northern General Hospital.

The psychiatric intensive care unit is called the Endcliffe Ward and has been built on the former Oakwood site at the hospital’s Longley Centre.

It includes three enclosed gardens, an occupational therapy room and a family room. Prof Alan Walker, chair of the unit’s operator Sheffield Health and Social Care, said the new, larger facility was a ‘step forward’.
