A PLAQUE in memory of a popular South Yorkshire entertainer will be unveiled in Barnsley today.

The memorial to Charlie Williams MBE will be revealed at a small gathering at the Civic Theatre in the town centre at 12noon, in a ceremony led by the Mayor of Barnsley Coun Karen Dyson.

Mr Williams was born in Royston in 1927. He was first a professional footballer with Doncaster Rovers, but later became best known for his work as a performer, comedian and entertainer, as well as for his tireless charity work.
