A PUBLIC meeting organised as part of a campaign against the Government’s controversial shake-up of the NHS takes place in Sheffield this evening.
The Sheffield Save Our NHS group has organised the Don’t Let The NHS Become A Market Place event, which will welcome Professor Wendy Savage - a retired consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist who is co-chairman of the national Keep Our NHS Public campaign.
Sheffield Medact, the local branch of the global health charity, and Sheffield Medsin, made up of medical students working in the city, along with local trade unions, will also be supporting the event at the Victoria Hall in Chapel Walk at 7pm.
Opposition to the policies has forced David Cameron to introduce a pause in the Parliamentary Bill and introduce a ‘listening exercise’.
The meeting has been organised to give the different campaigns in Sheffield the chance to send a message to the government and local NHS leaders to scrap it as it stands.
It will be the first of a series of events to oppose changes which they claim “fundamentally undermine” the original values of the NHS.
