A PHONELINE set up in a bid to curb the cost of unnecessary hospital admissions has been extended.

Rotherham service Point of Contact, a help and advice line, will be available throughout the summer following a successful pilot. Thousands of people have accessed the phone line, on 0333 321 8282, since last October.

n Point of Contact directs patients to appropriate services to stop them attending Rotherham Hospital with non-urgent problems, thought to cost the NHS about £21,000 a day.
