THE Mayor of Barnsley will be at the local hospital tomorrow to officially open the trust’s new Minor Injuries Unit.
Coun Karen Dyson will visit Barnsley District General to cut the ribbon on the £240,000 unit, which provides purpose-built facilities for the assessment and treatment of a wide range of urgent conditions, minor injuries and illnesses.
Dr Joanna Beahan, consultant in emergency medicine, said: “Historically people with minor injuries or illness have had longer waiting times in the emergency department as we have had insufficient space for the number of patients who want to be seen.
“The new Minor Injuries Unit will mean we can treat patients with less serious injuries more quickly helping to reduce patient waiting times.”
The unit, next to A&E, is open daily from 9am to 8pm.
