A SHEFFIELD woman is returning to her roots to stage a global health festival.

Maria Gillott, who grew up in Hackenthorpe, has been organising One World Festivals across the world since 1996. This year she is bringing the event to the village of Spinkhill where she went to school.

The event, which takes place in the grounds of Mount St Mary’s College from August 1-14, brings together teachers in the field of health from across the world for more than 800 workshops and lectures.

Activities will include Tai Chi, natural movement and dance forms, exercise for physical and spiritual development, holistic health, arts, crafts and sports and natural cookery.

There will also be two free evening events for people who live in the local area - taking place on August 1 and 8 - featuring campfires, disco dancing and live music.

Maria said: “It is great for us to be bringing this global event to the region. It will be fantastic to host it so close to home and really put Spinkhill on the map.”
