DEVOTED fundraiser John Burkhill - Sheffield’s ‘mad man with the pram’ - gives a massive wave as he sets off on his latest mission.
The 71-year-old from Richmond is walking 1,000 miles between Asda supermarket stores at Handsworth, Rotherham and Chapeltown.
The route takes him through Attercliffe, Firth Park, Ecclesfield, Chapeltown, Thorpe Hesley, Kimberworth, Rawmarsh, Dalton, Rotherham, Templeborough, Tinsley, Darnall and Handsworth.
In the autumn he walked 1,000 miles between Sheffield’s six Ladbrokes betting shops, raising an impressive £8,500.
John, a familiar face around Sheffield with his pram and green wig, has devoted his life to fundraising for Macmillan after his wife June died from the disease. A year later his daughter Karen died during a routine operation.
John said: “I will never give up until I get that quarter of a million for Macmillan and have competed in 1,000 races.”
His efforts will help the charity as it celebrates it centenary year. Log on to www.justgiving.com/madmanwithpram to sponsor John.
